A practical video course that turns visual merchandising from a set of rules into a system you can understand and use. Through real industry insights, visual experiments and hands-on exercises, you’ll learn not what to copy — but how to see, think and create for yourself.
MODULE 01 — PERCEPTION
Learn to see before you learn to create. Lesson 1 — What Did You See? How customers actually perceive a space and why looking and seeing are not the same thing. Lesson 2 — Why Did You Notice That? Attention, contrast, scale, difference, the unexpected, focal points and why the storefront matters. Practical challenge: Photograph a window that made you look. Keep the picture—we come back to it later.
MODULE 02 — WINDOWS
You have a few seconds. Make them count. Why windows matter and what their actual job is. From the first idea to the finished composition: focal points, balance, scale, product selection, storytelling, props, colour, communication and common mistakes. Practical challenge: Build or redesign a window concept from scratch.
MODULE 03 — STYLING
Products don't style themselves. Mannequin styling, product combinations, silhouettes, layering, accessories, colour stories and the small details that make styling feel intentional rather than accidental. Practical challenge: Create and document your own styling story.
MODULE 04 — PRODUCT PRESENTATION
What you show is only half the story. How you show it changes everything. Product placement, folding, hanging, stacking, grouping, repetition, rhythm, density and creating clear visual stories across different product categories.
MODULE 05 — COMPOSITION
Teaching the eye where to go. Hierarchy, balance, symmetry and asymmetry, proportion, negative space, repetition, rhythm, focal points and how individual elements become one visual composition.
MODULE 06 — COLOUR, MATERIAL & TEXTURE
The tools that change a space without saying a word. How colour influences perception, building colour stories, combining materials and textures, creating contrast and using visual consistency without making everything look identical.
MODULE 07 — LIGHTING
If nobody can see it, congratulations—you've merchandised the darkness. Understanding ambient, accent and decorative lighting; directing attention with light; colour temperature; shadows; common lighting mistakes; and using lighting as part of the visual story.
MODULE 08 — THE CUSTOMER JOURNEY
The window got them inside. Now what? Entrance zones, sightlines, navigation, customer movement, hot and cold areas, visual pauses and creating a journey through the store rather than a collection of disconnected displays.
MODULE 09 — BRAND DNA
How does a store look unmistakably like itself? Translating brand identity into physical space. Visual codes, consistency, storytelling, recognising what belongs to a brand—and what doesn't.
MODULE 10 — COMMERCIAL VISUAL MERCHANDISING
Beautiful is not enough. Connecting creativity with business: product priorities, newness, bestsellers, campaigns, promotions, stock realities and understanding how VM contributes to commercial performance.
MODULE 11 — CAMPAIGNS & EXECUTION
From an idea on paper to something that actually works in a store. Planning a VM concept, adapting it to different spaces and store formats, guidelines, implementation, budgets, materials, communication and maintaining standards.
MODULE 12 — THE VISUAL MERCHANDISER
The part nobody teaches you. Working with store teams, managers, marketing and other stakeholders. Presenting an idea, defending a visual decision, giving feedback, prioritising and solving problems when reality refuses to follow the beautiful plan.
MODULE 13 — THE FUTURE OF VISUAL MERCHANDISING
What happens when the store is no longer the only store? How VM is evolving: changing customer behaviour, online shopping, digital environments, AI, technology, sustainability and emerging visual directions. Students analyse 2–3 real brands: where their visual identity came from, where it is now and where it could go next.
